About the artist
Serhii Shcherbakov
- Professional Watercolour Artist
- Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine
- Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland
Serhii Shcherbakov was born in 1962 in Feodosia, Crimea. Drawn to art from early childhood, he studied at the Ivan Aivazovsky Art School in Feodosia, where he discovered his lifelong love of watercolour.
In 1980 he entered the Belarusian State Theatre and Art Institute (now the Belarusian State Academy of Arts) in Minsk, where he studied industrial design while continuing to paint in watercolour and taking part in student and national exhibitions. After graduating in 1986 he worked as a designer in Kyiv, creating corporate identities, packaging and posters, but his passion for painting gradually pushed design work into the background. Since 1992 he has worked as an independent artist.
In 2000 he became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine, and in 2010 he joined the Union of Marine Painters. Throughout the 2000s he exhibited actively, taking part in group and solo exhibitions in Ukraine, Germany, France, Belgium and Russia. His works are held in private collections in Sri Lanka, Germany, the Czech Republic, the USA, Japan and China.
Today Serhii lives and works in Westport, on the west coast of Ireland, where the Atlantic light, the harbour, the boats and the streets of the town have become the subjects of his newest watercolours.
